Electronic music pioneer Amon Tobin is set to release his seventh record entitled ISAM on Ninja Tune on May 23, 2011. Digital copies of ISAM are available now but the physical release includes a six panel gatefold CD, a double heavyweight LP with printed inner sleeves, and a limited edition CD artbook featuring exclusive images and an essay by John Doran. Tobin has long been famous for his use of natural/found sounds and this album promises to delve even further into those depths. Tobin uses invented instruments and synthesized natural sounds as the basis for ISAM saying "It's by far the most exciting development in my personal quest for some control over nature. One of the most innovative electronic musicians on the planet, Tobin further pushes the envelope with large scale audio/video performances of the album including a multi-dimensional shapeshifting art installation. You must admire Tobin's musical chops but also his swagger. I mean the fact that he admits he is on a "personal quest" in hopes of exerting "some control over nature" takes some serious cojones. I have long been a fan of Tobin and this new album only further cements my allegiance. In other words ISAM is the balls.
